Along Costa Rica’s border with Nicaragua in the province of Guanacaste, Peñas Blancas, is often mistaken for a border town, but this is not the case. Actually, Peñas Blancas is an outpost. No places to stay here. However, a number of shops and food stalls are around the place as well as a number of facilities few exchange houses. A border crossing is open from 6 am to 8 pm every day, the Peñas Blancas border feels a mile away. If you got here early morning, you can go to Nicaragua for free. However, from 6 am to noon crossing cost is U.S. $ 7, after which a fee U.S. $ 9 is charged. If you dive to the border, you have to pay a fee of U.S. $ 22 for your car. If you come to Costa Rica from Nicaragua through this junction, to pay a U.S. $ 2 to leave the country. There are plenty of money exchange on both sides of the border, along with hordes of tour guides who offer to guide you through the crossing and carry your luggage for a small fee. Additionally you can find a duty free shop on the Nicaraguan side that sells a lot of alcohol, and some cosmetics. But be careful here, as there are a lot of scammers of all kinds and may be at risk.
