Why is it called Malpais, if it is such a beautiful place? Maybe because somebody seemed to think it was the perfect scenario where the “savages” of the immortal novel “A Happy World” lived. Perhaps because the life of the pioneers was indeed very difficult because the sources of water had dried up.
In what we agree is that Malpais, or Mal Pais, is a coastal community of great beauty, located in the peninsular territory of the province of Puntarenas. It is also a destination for sun and beach where the visitor can enjoy in a big way.
If you prefer, you can lie on the beach, explore the coves, sit and watch the sea and if it is among your skills and tastes, you can also surf, because the waves are ideal for that exciting sport.
Malpaís should be seen in conjunction with Santa Teresa. They are coastal towns located on the Nicoya Peninsula, between Playa Carmen and the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. In the surrounding towns, more than in the specific community of Malpais, has been giving a remarkable commercial development, mainly related to the tourism.
Malpaís is a seductive spot, mainly visited by lovers of surfing, kitesurfing and other water sports, such as fishing, diving. But it is also possible to enjoy horseback riding, hiking, canopy and sight turtles.
In the vicinity of Malpais and Santa Teresa is the Cabo Blanco Reserve, Costa Rica’s first protected area, with more than 1,200 hectares of habitat for 150 species of birds, such as red lapas, kingfishers, ospreys, pelicans, and seagulls.
And as a complement, there are places where you can enjoy an exquisite nightlife that leaves memorable experiences.
