San Isidro de El General is the main town of the canton of Perez Zeledon. With a population that surpasses the 70 thousand inhabitants, it is the most populated and developed city of the southeast of Costa Rica.
In the urban area of San Isidro, extended by the District Daniel Flores, are represented the great majority of the institutions of the State. Also, it has hotels, restaurants, hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, agro-industries, universities, social media, temples of various religious creeds, sports courts and gyms, etc.
It is also a strategic point to visit the cities and towns, dozens of paradisiac beaches and natural parks of such importance as Manuel Antonio, in the canton of Quepos, Corcovado in the canton of Osa and Chirripó in the canton of Perez Zeledon.
It is an attractive community, of kind, helpful and enterprising people, who find their origins in the late nineteenth century, with the opening of a trail that the Government ordered to build, to communicate the Central Valley with the indigenous communities of the south.
They were epic beginnings, reserved for brave families who defied the inclemencies of the Cerro de la Muerte to get to work on what the illustrious Pedro Pérez Zeledón (whose name he inherited to the Canton) gave to consider as a land of promise.

Opening the path and challenging the inclemencies of the Cordillera was a slow process; But fame over the fertility of the land and the abundance of crops attracted more and more immigrants who came to the communities we now know as Rivas, Palmares, La Palma, Pedregoso, Santa Rosa and San Ramón.
Today, Perez Zeledon has a network of roads of more than 2 thousand kilometers that connects San Isidro de El General to the most remote villages of twelve districts. Also, it has access by asphalted roads to the Central Valley, the Pacific coast, and Panama.
