San Antonio is the first district of the Belén canton and is close to everything: It’s located in the center of the Greater Metropolitan Area near San José and the Juan Santamaría International Airport.
Its strategic location has allowed it to reach an outstanding development pace which is evident in its industry, commerce, services, sports and well-being. Belén is among the five cantons of Costa Rica with the highest rate of social development.
These are good reasons to explain why San Antonio and the whole canton of Belén is especially appealing for nationals and foreigners who travel on diplomatic missions, work or people looking for rest and recreation in San Jose and other Central Valley cities.
Before traveling through the great metropolis, it is important to stop for a moment in Belén, a small but powerful canton in Heredia to visit three specially interesting points because of its historical and cultural importance.
- The temple: The temple as in many other cities is one of the main architectural monuments.
- La Casa de la Cultura: It’s located in the first municipal building that existed in Belén, it was declared National Historical Landmark by the Center for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Youth.
- Ojo de Agua Water Park: Commonly known as El Balneario de Ojo de Agua, this park is supplied by a flow of water that goes continuously from the Barva aquifer in Heredia. It is the most traditional Costa Rican beach resort, it has four swimming pools, a water slide, canopy, kayak, sports courts and restaurants.
