There are two different routes to get to Playa Mal País: The most expedite route is to take the Paquera ferry-boat from Puntarenas. The second route is by taking the Tempisque Ferry and taking the route Tempisque- San Pablo- Jicaral- Playa Naranjo- Paque
Mal Pais is a small coastal community about 150 kilometers west of the capital San José and the southwestern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in the province of Puntarenas. This community is typically 4 km north of Cabo Blanco National Park and is becoming one of the biggest tourist attraction. Mal Pais extends approximately 6 km from east to west and is an ideal place to relax and watch the best that Costa Rica has to offer.
Mal Pais is a paradise for surfers as it offers consistent waves, good waves and great breaks. It is a rocky beach with expanses of sand and covered with beautiful shells. With lush vegetation that grows along the coast, this unpopulated area is perfect for those wanting a peaceful holiday away from the tumult and reposadas. Mal Pais is remembered as one of the best beaches in Costa Rica and is just a few miles south of Santa Teresa one of the peaks of Costa Rica Surfing.
These beaches offer not only some waves that are ideal for beginners and experts, but also has a large number of water sports such as sport fishing tours, scuba diving, kite surfing and snorkeling. For those who prefer land-based activities are horseback riding, canopy tours, hiking trails and excellent hiking exploratory.
If you are an avid bird watchers, Mal Pais is home to a large number of migratory shorebirds and worth seeing.
