Playa Avellana is located 10 kilometers south of Tamarindo in the Guanacaste province, near the beautiful beach Jimquillal.
It is a relatively isolated beach with its calm and tranquil surroundings. Avellana beach is a short distance north of Playa Negra. You can reach this beach from Santa Cruz or from Villareal. But keep in mind that the roads leading to the beach are unpaved and dirty. There are at least 8 different surf sites (both right and left side) located along the coast, so Playa Avellana is a great place for experienced surfers. The best time for surfing in this beach 2 km of white sand when the tide is high and this wave tubes are almost perfect.
Not the best place for swimming due to strong currents. Hazelnut is the perfect beach for those who want a quiet and escape from the monotony of other beaches. If you do not surf, can take a ride on horseback along the coast or calm your nerves in a bar on the beach, which plays beautiful music. Accommodation in Playa Avellana are also very cheap, proportionate and reasonable.
