This park protects a vast biological richness, and can be regarded as the Amazon region by the similarity of the vegetation. It has lowlands, swamps and mountainous areas. It is common to observe jaguars and pumas. There are howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys. This park has the largest number of scarlet macaws (about 1,200) in Central America. It has 400 species of birds, 139 species of mammals and 115 species of amphibians and reptiles, in addition to 16 kinds of freshwater fish. Conditions attract large numbers of scientists. It has paths for which it is possible to travel on foot or horseback. The services provided include camping areas and eating, sanitation, showers, drinking water, nature trails, exhibition area and information, there are signs and guides.
