The Pacific Coast

The Pacific coast of Costa Rica offers more exciting fishing and consistent with fish such as Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish and more. In the northwestern province of Guanacaste, charter boats work out of Coco, Ocotal, Flamingo Tamarindo and Carrillo.

Further south, you can fish out of Puntarenas, Tambor, Punta Leona, Quepos and Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Drake Bay, Golfito and Zancudo.

The Northern Pacific

Cabo Blanco to the Gulf of Papagayo Flamingo Beach, there is a marina which is one of the sports fishing center stronger in that area. There are plenty of places out of which you can fish the Pacific too.

Seasons

    * Dorado: these colorful gamesters are abundant late May through October when the seasonal rains flood the rivers
    * Tuna: Peak months August through October. The rest of the year is not very good but you might find some
    * Marlin: Caught all year round; mid November to early March amazing, then slowing from April into early June, peaking in August and September
    * Wahoo: when the rains start in May, peaking in July an August. Most are caught around the rocky points and islands
    * Sailfish: Caught all year round; May through August amazing. They may begin to thin out in September and late August through November
    * Roosterfish: available all year, but are more caught in the Papagayo Bay area from November through March. The roosters like the structure of the shoreline and islands where they’re found 50 to 60 feet of water

Central Pacific

The center of fishing in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica launched from Cape Blanco to Drake Bay Quepos, as also in Puntarenas province, located on the southern tip of Nicoya Peninsula, Jaco Beach, Punta Leone and Drake Bay. From December to April, these are the most wanted places by most of the tourists who come to Costa Rica and rarely disappoint.

Less than 20 miles deep sea, you will find the action because the tuna, rooster fish, wahoo, dorado, jacks, mackerel, snapper, a variety of species of snapper and sea bass are even smaller.

Seasons

    * Marlin: October strongest month for fishing this, as well in September and November
    * Sailfish: in mid-December to late April, when it travels to the north is considered the best season, but is seen in large groups around October
    * Tuna: it can be seen throughout the year along the Pacific coast, but is most abundant from June to September. There is an average weight of 8-12 pounds
    * Wahoo: there are plenty south of the Quepos area during the summer months of June and August especially in Drake Bay and Caño Island
    * Roosterfish: the best places to find these fish are off the mouths of rivers and steep rocky slopes. Strategic points are the mouth of the Parrita and Palo Seco, Parrita and Damas between the outskirts of Damascus, at the mouth of the Naranjo River, on Sunday and throughout the area of Drake Bay and Caño Island. They are seen most frequently between the months of June through September
    * Snook: they are easy to find in many river mouths along the coast, the Sierpe River and in the large lake in Sierpe. The best months it seems that from July to November during the heavy rainy season

South Pacific

Golfito and Playa Zancudo in Golfito is the largest area in the south of Costa Rica, you could find Sports Fishing companies in Golfo Dulce, Golfito downton, Puerto Jiménez in Península de Osa and Playa Zancudo.

Zancudo is a narrow peninsula with miles of beach in the seaside and surrounded by several rivers. In high season a marlin or two outside Matapalo Cape and you can find and plenty of jacks, runners, mackerel, amberjack, roosterfish and big snapper inshore.

Seasons

    * Marlin: for this fish is high season from August to December but also can take it by surprise in any month during the year if the water temperature is warm
    * Sailfish: not very abundant during the year but in greater quantities during the months of December to March. It is often delayed from April to early June, and then take a peak in August and September
    * Tuna: the season for this fish corresponds to the season for marlin and sailfish. In a while you will be able to fish for yellowfin tuna up to 100 pounds

Caribbean

The canals and rivers in the northern Caribbean coast boast some of the best snook and tarpon in the world, and full of lush rainforest, which adds to the natural experience. The snook are good fighters but they did not taste good. Approximately many places for fishing are in Barra del Colorado, Tortuguero and Parismina, all the canals.
