Due to its outstanding beauty, the Tortuguero National Park is one of the most emblematic tourist destinations in Costa Rica. It is a network of navigable channels in the northern sector of the province of Limón which stands out for its flora and fauna
There are sectors of very humid tropical forest, of humid premontane rain forest and tropical rain forest that serve as habitat to terrestrial turtles, manatees, crocodiles, crustaceans and more than 50 species of freshwater fishes.
In addition: green macaws, curassows, crab hawks, orioles and to leatherback, hawksbill, green and black turtles. These characteristics make Tortuguero a paradisiacal place.
How to get to Tortuguero?
The Tortuguero National Park is located in the canton of Pococí, in the province of Limón. It is not accessible by land, since it is a network of channels but there is a wide availability of navigation services.
From Guápiles, main town of the Pococí canton, you must travel to the community of Cariari (20 km), then you need to go to Cuatro Esquinas (15 km) and then to La Pavona where there’s space is available for parking vehicles.
Cariari and La Pavona are linked by one of those rustic roads that hinder the transit of vehicles due to the potholes that form during the rainy season.
