It’s a paradise wherever you look. where to start?
Costa Rica is a small country of 50,900 square kilometers, which can be seen by car in a day from north to south and which can be crossed (from one ocean to the other) in just half a day.
Nevertheless, you need several pages just to mention the natural treasures that make it the ideal destination for the end of the year.
It’s great for the end of the year and all year round, since its climate conditions of a tropical country are never extreme: the rain is refreshing and the highest temperatures in summer hardly go over 33º C at sea level.
It’s a paradise wherever you look. Where to start?
• Corcovado National Park: Located in the southeast of Costa Rica, in the exuberant Osa peninsula, it has a zone scientifically regarded as the most biologically intense on Earth. Full of vegetation and wildlife; with beaches and landscapes full of people eager to give you a warm welcome.
• Drake Bay: It’s the cove that the legendary English pirate, Francis Drake, used as shelter during his adventures sailing the seas. It is said that on the seabed of this peaceful place, next to the Corcovado National Park, there are coins of a treasure sunk by the pirate.
• Poás Volcano: A perfect cone, and a true gift to sight, with a bigger prize if you’re lucky enough to see a cloud of smoke, from the beautiful touristic community of La Fortuna de San Carlos. And even though it’s a mountain area, don’t forget to bring your swimsuit to go to the hot springs.
• The coast: A road which goes alongside the pacific coast, from where you can see dozens of beaches, each one more beautiful than the previous one, in Garabito, Parrita, Quepos, Osa… and stop at the one you prefer, like Jacó, Esterillos, Manuel Antonio, Matapalo, Dominical, Uvita… and enter the Marino Ballena National Park, where meek tortoises, dolphins and whales arrive.
• Manuel Antonio: Three beautiful beaches of white sand; three mind-blowing landscapes, in the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. In Manuel Antonio, opportunities to enjoy the beach, sand and sun await you, with protected vegetation and confident animals (such as spider and white-headed monkeys, raccoons, sloths), who live their lives without fear of humans.
Places like Tamarindo, Langosta and Grande Beach, and the Nuboso de Monteverde Forest Reservation, in the province of Guanacaste; the Tortuguero National Park with its mystical channels, and the Cahuita National Park, with the beautiful Puerto Viejo, in front of the Caribbean Sea.
These are some of the countless reasons why Costa Rica is an ideal destination for the end of the year. With good road infrastructure, a wide and exquisite hotel offer, no matter where you arrive, you only need to rent a good car.
