Ashes of the Turrialba volcano reached San Jose

Current eruption of the Turrialba volcano is the largest recorded since 1866

Past the 11 p. m on Wednesday the neighbors of the Central and the source they heard a loud rumble and a noise coming from the crater of the Turrialba volcano that was maintained for about 45 minutes. 

From that time until this morning there was a sharp fall of ash, especially toward the western sector of the Central People, which is located two kilometers from the crater. There are now only four people. 

The National Emergency Commission reported constant eruptions at the volcano. Scientists from University of Costa Rica and the National University are already in place. The Emergency Committee was convened at 6 a .m . in Turrialba. 

The CNE keeps green alert by the phreatic eruption. Some neighbors in places such as the source and the withdrawal they decided to leave by their own means toward the sector of La Pastora in Santa Cruz de Turrialba. On the other hand, others preferred to stay in their homes but with the suitcases ready, if they had to evacuate. 

Carlos Ramirez, volcanologist of the National Seismological Network (RSN), said that there were reports of a strong earthquake known as tremor. For this reason, around 2 to m., arrived in the area in the company of volcanologists Gino Gonzalez and Raul Mora. 

"Yesterday morning we were in the crater of the Turrialba, we detected very high temperatures and during the day there were several tremor. We will climb and to analyze what type of eruption was," Ramirez added, before go up to the crater. 

Ronald Guido, park rangers of the Turrialba volcano, confirmed that is already on the second ring of security, that is to say, that restricts access to the place from the sector of La Pastora. 

The first to arrive at the site were members of the Red Cross of Las Pacayas and the Public Force of Turrialba. 

"When we arrived at the place the people I was very scared, there was a smell of sulfur. They were given masks and the evaluate," said Melvin.
